The current comparsa de Gigantes de Bilbao is composed of 14 and 9 cabezudos Giants.
12 of the 14 giants were created in 1988 by Juan Ignacio Urbieta (Deba, Guipúzcoa). The carnival figures are from the previous generation in 1980. 
 In 1998 a new pair of Giants is included in this generation. To mark the centenary of Athletic Bilbao Moskotarrak comparsa commands to create a pair representing the Athletic. The Giants are built by the company Loitz. The pair represent Rafael Moreno, "Pitxitxi" the man who scored the first goal of the Athletic, and his wife Mina.

Los Gigantes y Cabezudos de Bilbao llevan presentes en mi vida como en la del resto de niños y niñas bilbaínos desde siempre. Haciéndonos llorar desde bien pequeños con ellos, para años después hacerles perrerías para que nos persiguieran. Es por esto por lo que he elegido los gigantes y cabezudos de Bilbao…

No se sabe con exactitud en que año se pasearon por primera vez Gigantes en Bilbao, pero hay datos que datan de 1509 en los que ya aparecen Gigantes en las procesiones del Corpus.
Con seguridad si se sabe que en 1896 había Gigantes en Bilbao, ya que hay fotografías que lo defienden. En la fotografía aparecen 8 Gigantes y 8 cabezudos, llamados antiguamente "Enanos o Rabís". Los Gigantes representaban a Don Terencio y Doña Tomasa, la pareja mas antigua de Gigantes en Bilbao, una pareja de aldeanos, otra de moros y otra de Turcos. Estos Gigantes, sobre el año 1915 pasan a pertenecer al ayuntamiento de Gernika (Bizkaia) para animar las Fiestas de este municipio. Años mas tarde, unos borrachos prendieron fuego a los Gigantes, quedando solo de ellos los hierros que los sujetaban.

Mas tarde, en 1934 exactamente, aparecen nuevos Gigantes en Bilbao. Fueron creados de la mano de Radio Bilbao, construidos en unos talleres de Atxuri (Bilbao).
Los Gigantes representaban a los ya conocidos Don Terencio y Doña Tomasa, la pareja de aldeanos que ya estaba en 1896, las parejas de moros y turcos se unieron formando una sola, y una nueva pareja, la de chinos. Estos Gigantes duraron hasta el año 1956.

En 1962 se vuelve a crear una nueva serie de Gigantes, también de la mano de Radio Bilbao. Vuelven a ser 8 los Gigantes. En esta ocasión desaparecen los moros, turcos y chinos. Los personajes representan a Don Terencio y Doña Tomasa, los aldeanos, y dos nuevas parejas: El Inglés que vino a Bilbao, la Bilbaina que lo enamoró, el angulero de la ría y la sardinera de Santurtzi. Estos Gigantes eran demasiado altos y pesaban mucho, ya se cayeron en mas de una ocasión, por lo tanto fueron guardados, estos fué la serie de Gigantes que mas corta "Vida" a tenido en Bilbao. Los cabezudos siguieron saliendo en la Villa durante las fiestas.

En 1980 se crea otra serie de nuevos Gigantes, esta vez se dejan en las manos de Pedro Goiriena. En esta ocasión son 12 los Gigantones, representando a:
Don Terencio, Doña Tomasa, los aldeanos, el Inglés y la Bilbainita, que ya estuvieron en 1962, y 3 nuevas parejas, el ferrón de San Francisco y la cigarrera de Santutxu, el marino de la ría y la carguera que cargaba los barcos, el general Zumalakarregui e Isabel II. Estos Gigantes tampoco duraron mucho, ya que en 1990 se creo otra serie de Gigantes, aunque estos de 1980 aun se conservan.

La actual comparsa de Gigantes de Bilbao esta compuesta por 14 Gigantes y 9 cabezudos.

En 1998 una nueva pareja de Gigantes se incluye en esta generación. Con motivo del centenario del Athletic, la comparsa Moskotarrak de Bilbao manda crear una pareja que represente al Athletic. Los Gigantes son construidos por la empresa Loitz. Esta pareja representan a Rafael Moreno, "Pitxitxi", el hombre que marco el primer gol del Athletic, y su esposa Mina.
