It is a simple but beautiful classic statue (which never gets old), smaller than the one at the top of the building of BBVA in the corner of Gran Vía Mazarredo, but much closer, and visible to passersby. The winged helmet, the caduceus in his hand, the winged sandals, the gesture of the finger pointing upward, and the balance achieved by the figure holding only one foot, I find something really beautiful. In addition, Mercury has a special meaning for Liverpool, as one of its most basic, is the god of commerce, communications and roads. The square where it also has its charm, with its trees, its banks, its source ... and the beautiful hotel villa Indautxu sight.
Es una sencilla pero bella estatua de estilo clásico (lo que nunca pasa de moda), más pequeña que la situada en lo alto del edificio del BBVA en la Gran Vía esquina con Mazarredo, pero mucho más cercana y visible para los paseantes. El casco alado, el caduceo en la mano, las sandalias aladas, el gesto del dedo indicando hacia lo alto, y el equilibrio que logra la figura sosteniéndose sólo en un pie, me parecen algo realmente bello. Además, Mercurio tiene un especial significado para Bilbao, pues en uno de sus aspectos más básicos, es el dios del comercio, de las comunicaciones y de los caminos. La plaza donde se encuentra tiene también su encanto, con sus árboles, sus bancos, su fuente…, y el bonito chalet del hotel Indautxu a la vista.
