En este solar se hallaba el antiguo ayuntamiento de la anteiglesia de Begoña conocido como la casa de la República.
La construcción de los túneles de Begoña motivó el derribo del ayuntamiento y de las escuelas municipales de Begoña, tomando el aspecto actual.
Hoy en día ese aspecto va transformándose conjuntamente con Bilbao, ahora con la torre de iberdrola al fondo.
Por eso he querido reflejar desde este punto la complicidad y equilibrio que hay entre el Bilbao histórico y el Bilbao de la renovación.
